Thomas Junghans (*1956 in Recklinghausen, Germany) is a German-Dutch sculptor, best known for his abstract sculptures made of wood, bronze, and stone. He completed his artistic training in Maastricht and Aachen, where he focused intensively on form and material. Since the 1980s, he has exhibited his works across Europe. Junghans’ sculptures are characterized by a raw, earthy aesthetic that still retains a certain delicacy. His work with abstracted heads is particularly notable, creating a balance between tranquility and expressive power. He lives and works in the Netherlands with his wife, the artist Siiri Spronken.
Thomas Junghans’ sculpture “Autumn” is a profound reflection on human existence. It combines philosophical ideas with an expressive visual language, uniting both inner tension and aesthetic harmony. The fragmentation of the head and the gilded surfaces highlight the contrast between transience and permanence, inviting the viewer to reflect on the changing nature of life and the quest for completeness. The sculpture is a unique piece.
