Ida Kerkovius was born in Riga in 1879. She was a master student of Adolf Hölzel, studied at the Bauhaus under Johannes Itten, Georg Muche, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee and developed an independent artistic practice after her studies. Her artistic oeuvre includes numerous oil paintings, pastels and drawings. In addition to her works on canvas and paper, she also devoted herself to textile art and produced a great number of knotted carpets.
