Roger Libesch’s visual world is characterized by pop, comics and media. His examination of the synchronicity of the daily flood of information and images from television, the Internet and all other modern media is both a focal point and a source of inspiration for him. This has led him to his very own, montage-like style of painting. At a glance, multi-dimensional perspectives open up to the viewer on the two-dimensional picture surface. As in comic sequences, he works with exaggerated perspectives, exaggerated color effects and mixes the scales as if in a dream world. The high-contrast juxtaposition and composition of his motifs also manifests itself in his pictorial themes. In the two-part series “Asia meets Bavaria”, for example, he focuses on the differences and the initially unapparent similarities between the almost diametrically opposed worlds of Asia and Bavaria. In doing so, he draws real and fantastic connecting lines and culminates all facets of these cultures in his painting.
