The works of Berlin-based artist Rubica von Streng initially appear to the viewer as an open space—one that allows room for individual consciousness as well as for associations or interpretations. However, the artist’s own perspective is a distinctly forward-looking view of our world. Current issues such as the climate crisis or human conflicts, and especially their impact on nature, are reflected in some of her works. Yet, rather than creating dystopian or hopeless visions of the world around us, the artist presents the possibility of a respectful coexistence. Layered, almost translucent organic forms evoke flora and fauna while entirely eluding representational depiction. The bright colors, sometimes applied in glazes or opaquely, convey a dreamlike quality—yet they do not seem unreal or alien. For the artist, they represent plausible visions and perspectives of the future.
