Jochen Pankrath is exhibiting in the DISPLAY exhibition series at the “kunst galerie fürth” municipal gallery. The large window front facing Königsplatz is utilized as an exhibition space, creating a new space for art that can be seen from the outside.
As part of the DISPLAY exhibition, Jochen Pankrath is showing the work “vierzehn”(fourteen), which he designed especially for the unusual presentation in the window. Five smaller paintings by the artist, which were created using the technique of reverse glass painting, served as a conceptual model. “vierzehn” is therefore a work that is compositionally divided and plays with the viewer’s perception.

The subjects in Jochen Pankrath’s oeuvre are multi-faceted; in addition to the figure, the landscape surrounding us is a central motif. The initially seemingly classical themes meet a modern and contemporary realization: Jochen Pankrath combines surrealistic moments, such as the picture within a picture, with already familiar motifs. For the viewer, the illusion created thus correlates directly with familiar reality.
In line with the basic idea of realism, Pankrath questions the boundaries of reality; in his works, pictorial spaces are not only limited to the supporting ground but also strive to bridge and expand into reality. With his works, the artist not only enters into a dialog with the viewer by questioning his immediate surroundings, but also with (art) history itself. Pankrath refers to the past and the future in order to reinterpret them in the context of the present moment.
