The sheet “Pine Tree at Night” depicts the atmosphere of Edo’s most attractive entertainment district, Yoshiwara, whose guests used to recount their exciting experiences on the morning walk home from the “lucky pine tree” on the banks of the Sumida River. The green boat also served such pleasures of the “fleeting, flowing life” (ukiyo).
