Rainbow Prelude - Arquus

With Rainbow Prelude, the anonymous artist collective Arquus introduces a vivid sign of color into an architecture heavily burdened by history. In 2020, eight pillars of the Zeppelin Tribune on the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds in Nuremberg were temporarily covered with brightly colored bands. The strict monumentality of the structure is thus confronted with the open, almost immaterial quality of the rainbow. For a brief moment, color transforms the perception of the site and opens up a visual space for memory, the present, and social discourse.

The term “prelude” – a musical introduction – reinforces the idea of a beginning and the possibility of reinterpretation.

The work shown here preserves the ephemeral intervention as an image, allowing it to be experienced beyond its original place and moment.
