The tree with its yellow foliage, the reeds and the greenish water reveal a landscape that initially appears immediately familiar. Yet Pankrath also explores the relationship between reality and painted illusion, questioning how an image constructs and simultaneously challenges our perception of the world. Along the shoreline, individual brushstrokes become reeds, while areas of light color take shape as elements of the landscape. The title “Spurensuche” can therefore also be understood as an exploration of the transition between representational imagery and painterly expression.
