Arquus

  • The artist group Arquus, which appeared in autumn 2020, is seeking emancipatory ways to formulate updated claims to social sculpture and discusses newer and newest forms of action with a growing cultural studies network. It does so in the knowledge that contemporary phenomena of communication guerrillas such as the PENG collective, whose early references can possibly be found in the Dadaists, first fragmented unnoticed despite years of group-internal mediation, only to break up recently. Just as Marcel Duchamp did not describe himself as a Dadaist, the artists of the prelude describe themselves as new representatives of social sculpture. Even the attempt made at the beginning to classify them, for example in the context of the completed Capitalist Realism, can only be a reference.

In fall 2020, the artist collective Arquus ventured to erect a counter-monument at a building that is as historic as it is politically sensitive—the Zeppelin Grandstand. This skillful and sophisticated artistic action left behind poetic visual icons at this historic site, which have since traveled around the world as digital contemporary witnesses.
