Das Fest - Udo Kaller

Udo Kaller

“The festival” delights with its colorful cheerfulness. The flags made of colored paper, which were associated with the request for prosperity, success and wealth, characterized the Tanabata folk festival at the beginning of autumn. In front of the sacred Mount Fuji in the center of the picture stretches the sea of roofs of Edo, already a cosmopolitan city with several hundred thousand inhabitants around 1850. The color woodcut on which Kaller’s lithograph is based supposedly shows Hiroshige’s view from his home of his native Yaesu district.

Framed in an elegant studio frame with silver foil, floating mounting with spacer between passe-partout and glass, standard glazing. Dustproof finish. Outer dimensions: 98.5×72.5 cm
