Marilyn was here - Richard Lindner
This 1970 print, published by Manus-Presse in Stuttgart and part of Richard Lindner’s series “Marily was here,” presents a refined, almost weightless line drawing in which the silhouette of a female figure is only subtly suggested. Geometric forms and diagram-like structures flank the figure, creating a compelling contrast between organic presence and technical abstraction. Without depicting a direct portrait, Lindner reflects on the myth of Marilyn Monroe as a cultural symbol, both fragile presence and constructed icon. The delicate pencil work and expansive white space lend the composition a poetic restraint that draws attention to the symbolic dimension of the motif.
