In her works, artist Donata Benker combines various references from the classical genres of art history. Landscape painting and architectural representation meet within abstract painting. Architectural constructions float in front of colorful backgrounds, which are composed of multiple color gradients or constructed surfaces.
The viewer is given a familiar, cozy feeling, although these places are actually unfamiliar and strange. Yet there is almost a sense of déjà vu about these enchanted places. The spaces and places depicted have no connection to reality, the constructs float, change and merge with the color background. Nevertheless, those houses, tents or gardens seem familiar to us within their depicted perspective and architecture.
