M2022-01 - Donata Benker

In these works, Donata Benker breaks down space and perspective into individual fragments and recomposes them into new, multilayered pictorial worlds. Architectural elements, geometric structures, and free painterly gestures overlap and interpenetrate one another. Planes tilt, open up, and at the same time seem to point in different spatial directions. The result is a pictorial architecture that deliberately suspends familiar notions of foreground, depth, and perspective. Luminous accents of color and dynamic lines intensify the impression of movement and constant transformation. For Benker, space is not a fixed order, but something open that continually re-forms in the act of seeing.

Her painting thus becomes a field of experimentation between architecture, perception, and abstract construction.
