Kitsune, the Hidden - Silke Mathé

With Kitsune, the Hidden, Silke Mathé leads the viewer into a mysterious counterworld within the metropolis of Tokyo. Bright red torii open a path through lush vegetation and draw the eye deep into an almost enchanted space. Amid leaves, shadows, and architecture, foxes and a pale, enigmatic figure emerge – reality and imagination begin to overlap. The intense color palette heightens the impression of a place suspended between the visible world and a hidden reality. In this way, the shrine space becomes a counterpart to the modern city: a quiet, spiritually charged refuge where ancient traditions continue to live on in the present.

Mathé does not create a literal depiction of Tokyo, but rather an atmospheric image of the mysterious that lies hidden behind the visible.
