Max Ackermann belongs to the most popular abstract artists of the post-war era and of the classic modern-era. His work was significantly influenced by World War II and the Third Reich. After World War II his work was strongly characterized by socio-critical ideas, until the late forties there was a steady progress in his artwork. He switched between objective expression and complete abstraction. The examples here are more abstract – the forms the beholder notices are very individual and make the paintings fascinatingly captivating.
